What is the pros and cons of using a articulated robot?

I need to find a suitable industrial robot to be able to automate the material from one place to another, at the same time the machine will be able to spray coating on the material.

Can someone suggest what machine should i choose and why?

I can’t really suggest a particular model, but perhaps I can offer some advice. First of all, besides the robot, you will need someone to set it up. Therefore, the interface ought to be simple but efficient enough to easily program. Think “VCR” here. The next thing to concider is that it will eventually need maintenance. Try and get something as standardized as possible. Think “vendor lock out” here. This is going to take some research, because the robot industry is not as standardized as the automotive industry. It would be so nice if robots were built like fluorescent lights, but they aren’t. The ideal candidate would have a basic frame, but could incorporate interchangable parts from as many different vendors as possible. I have also noticed that “cutting edge” technology isn’t always the best choice since it tends to still have a few design flaws which have already been worked out in an older, but more trustworthy design. Think “Microsoft Vista” here.

Finally, robots are most efficient standing in one place and preforming a stricly coreographed set of movements. Remember, these machines are blind, deaf and dumb. REALLY dumb. To get and idea of what can go wrong in industrial robot design, research the series of articles entitled “the case of the killer robot”. Some robots have been programmed to navigate corredors but my advice is to hire a fork lift operator if you want to actually move stuff around.

    Hope this helps
